In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus talks about his second coming. He says at that time, that all nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will say to the sheep at his right hand, “Come you who are blessed by my father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”   In this graphic story, Jesus lets his followers know that we have a job to do. In a world where hunger and hurt are rampant, we are to bring help and healing in Jesus’ name and for his sake.

The church must take seriously Jesus’ command to help the hurting. We do this with our time and talents and with our money. WPPC supports helping ministries around Kansas City and around the world. Locally, we give financial support to Kansas City Rescue Mission and City Union Rescue Mission. We regularly donate food to Harvesters and provide meals for Crosslines. We also provide financial support to Camp Heartland, our local PCUSA camp that teaches thousands of young people about Christ each year.

Around the world, we support Presbyterian missionaries, missionaries to Brazil Todd and Julie Hendry, Rivers of the World and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
